HELP FOR HEROES
Help For Heroes was founded in October 2007by Bryn and Emma Parry after they visited Selly Oak Hospital, since when it has raised over one million pounds a month. Once money is raised experts in the Royal Navy, Army and Royal Air Force are asked for guidance in how best to spend the money.Capped grants are given to charities and groups best able to provide facilities and services that our men who have served their country so gallantly so badly need.
Some examples of how some of the money raised has been spent are:
Headley Court
The eight million pound Help For Heroes Rehabilitation Complex is under construction and due to open in spring 2010
Combat Stress
Funding a 3.5 million pound extension to the treatment centre at Leatherhead to be completed May 2010
Norton House
Help towards provision of a Relatives’ House at Selly Oak
Battle Back
The military initiative based at Headley Court enabling wounded to enjoy adventure training
Troop Aid
They supply all wounded with a grab bag of essentials to make their stay at hospital more comfortable.
Skill Force
Enables rehabilitating servicemen to undergo an internship and learn new skills working with and inspiring schoolchildren
Launch Pad to Life
Aim to raise 20 million pounds to provide seven Hero Recovery Centres, where wounded will be able to live in purpose built houses while they learn new skills to equip them for their futures.
I am sure that everyone knows someone or of somone who has been affected by the war in Afghanistan and I hope that you will help Ribblesdale raise as much as possible for this very worthy cause. Thank you.
